The stroke-order rules

Five rules are enough to work out the order of almost every stroke.

三
Top to bottom
The top strokes are drawn first.
你
Left to right
The left-hand part before the right-hand part.
十
Horizontal first
When two strokes cross, the horizontal comes before the vertical.
国
Enter, fill, close
The frame, then the inside, and the bottom stroke last.
水
Centre, then sides
In a symmetrical character, the central stroke comes first.
